Participants run, jump, climb, and crawl through a mud-soaked obstacle course that spans more than three miles. Coordinators split up participants into waves, and award trophies to the top three men and women in each wave, as well as the top three overall participants. All racers receive a T-shirt, goodie bag, an official medal, and one free beer.

Moth-eaten prom or wedding dresses can conjure up memories of broken hearts, just as bright-green elf costumes can conjure up memories of horrifying seasonal jobs. One could throw these relics away or burn them in effigy, but those options wouldn’t be as fun as wrecking them in the Hog Wild Mud Run’s three-mile stretch of dirt and muck.
