$15 for $30 Worth of Vegetarian and Vegan Ethiopian Fare at Rahel Ethiopian Veggie Cuisine
Being a vegetarian can be hard, thankless work—extended family members rarely understand, many restaurants don’t accommodate you, and cows still try to devour you every chance they get. Today’s Groupon proves that vegetarian eating can be stylish and delicious: for $ 15, you get $ 30 worth of family-style vegetarian and vegan fare and drinks at Rahel Ethiopian Veggie Cuisine. This Groupon cannot be used toward the buffet or coffee ceremony.
Voted Best Ethnic Vegan Restaurant in 2009 by Los Angeles magazine, Rahel Ethiopian Veggie Cuisine is run by chef Rahel Woldmedhin, who whips up a menu of fresh, family-style vegetarian and vegan fare using authentic Ethiopian recipes. To start, grab a piece of injera, a thin, sponge-like sourdough flatbread used in place of utensils to transport delectable treats to taste buds. The yefasolia wet combines steamed vegetables with garlic, ginger, and turmeric ($ 9.95), and the yemiten shiro wot pounds powdered chickpeas into a red-pepper sauce seasoned with assorted spices ($ 10.95). For groups or those with additional, surgically implanted stomachs, combination specials such as the Vegan Feast, a mix of 11 items, including five stews, chopped tomatoes mixed with onions and jalapeños, and sunflower mixed with injera ($ 14.95 for one person, $ 28.95 for two people) offer a little bit of everything. Pair plates with sweet Ethiopian juices and teas, or finish off feasts with a vegan dessert.
Intimate and warm, Rahel Ethiopian Veggie Cuisine’s interior pleases eyes with walls dressed in paintings and African artwork and a ceiling dotted with decorative, upside-down umbrellas.
